2000 Striped Bass Tourney
(Lots of images. Please allow time to load)

As its predecessors, the 4th annual Striped Bass Derby was a great success, with plenty of food, fun and fishing for the participants. And when it was over the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company, this year's proceeds recipient, was the big winner.

Essential ingredients for any successful event are a great T-shirt (left) and a hard working committee (right). Committee members (left to right) Jim Kelly, Bob Smith, Rich Conway, Rich Ferguson and Harvey Kelsall.

Many turned the weekend into a family outing, bringing along spouses and children to enjoy a great fall weekend on LBI.
Everywhere, you could see the growing community support for the event as sponsorship banners hung all over the Sea Shell.

Of course, the weekend was mostly about who got the biggest bass. This time out, it was the crew of the Shady Lady (Left)
Below - Capt. Doug Cochran (center) and mates Buzz Rose (l) and Jim Andesron took home the $2500 prize with a 36 lb. 8 oz. catch.

Above - Capt. Bob Kisner (left) of the AOK had to settle for the $1500 second prize with a 31 lb. 9 oz. catch. The Coors Light girls and his crew Doug Walker and John Brown and some future anglers were on hand when he picked up the prize at the awards banquet.

This little guy didn't qualify at the weigh-in, but all agreed he was a "keeper."

The 2000 Derby's Top 10 List

A special award was established this year for the "Luckiest Guys Who Decided to Just Stay at the Bar." The winners are shown above.
